Novel Canon Role:
Merona's visit to the newly completed Hagia Sophia grounds Book II firmly in a precise historical moment. The ancient scholar leads Merona from the market toward the cathedral's shadow and examines the Cauldron in a secluded alcove, warning that it can create or destroy, then directs the company toward the ancient catacombs and the labyrinth beneath the city.
