Gregory of Tours' Historia Francorum covers his minority and regency, while the Chronicle of Fredegar covers his later reign and death, since Gregory's narrative ends in 591; his death in 596 is recorded as suspected poisoning, though this could not be confirmed at the time and should be presented as suspected rather than certain. The Treaty of Andelot (587) is a genuine surviving primary document, not a later reconstruction, and accurately underpins his historical inheritance of Burgundy.
